Early training

Born and raised in Melbourne, Jason Woodward was inspired by martial arts films and began Karate at about 16. He also trained in kickboxing before spending several years focused on weight training.

Training under Joe Sayah

Jason later researched Wing Chun and began studying under Grandmaster Joe Sayah. He completed an intensive twelve-month instructor-development programme and assisted Joe with school workshops and classes involving people with disabilities.

Establishing Oakleigh

After completing his instructor development, Jason established the Oakleigh Wing Chun Universe academy. He has taught children and adults and historically offered cardio Kung Fu classes; visitors should confirm current programmes directly with the academy.

Teaching approach

Jason emphasises accessible instruction, discipline and helping people learn at a workable pace. His approach begins with understanding a student’s goals and translating them into clear, achievable steps.
